In our first round of posts Matt and I talked about What’s Important to You. In that discussion we briefly mentioned our Values or our Guiding Principles.
Having decided what’s Important to Me I began taking steps to set my priorities straight and put myself on a path that would allow me to pursue my passions.
What’s Important to Me:
- Friendships
- Family
- Happiness
- Comfort
- Health
- Honesty
- Soccer
- Financial Independence
- Feeling fulfilled
- Seeing and trying new things
- Self-Improvement
I decided to write down specifically what I want to do and where I want to go in life. As Matt likes to say “You can’t get anywhere unless you know where you’re going.”
I Want To Be:
- Financially Secure – Money in the bank, good cash flow, and the financial freedom to pursue my interests.
- Healthy – I want to be fit, active and in decent shape.
- Fulfilled – This means I can spend time challenging myself with new things, learning and acquiring new skills.
I went a step further and wrote down the things I want to be able to do in my life because, as Matt likes to say “You can’t know how to get somewhere unless you know where you want to go!”
**NOTE: Some people call this Dreamlining, a term that I think is dumb, I don’t dream, I DO**
I Want to Accomplish in my Life
- Start and Run my own business
- Travel
- Build new products to improve the world
- Spend time with the people I love; my friends, my family
- Work to improve myself regularly
I’m a big believer in pursuing the things that make you happy so it was (and still is) very important to me to continually work towards these goals. More about how I did that next week…
